Sony HDR TG3E - Information
2.3 Megapixel ClearVid CMOS sensor
The Sony HDR TG3E incorporates Sony’s new CMOS image sensor. The sensor delivers a bright, detailed video footage captured at an effective resolution of 2.3 megapixels. The new CMOS sensor also uses less energy helping to prolong the battery life. The Exmor technology helps capture the video footage with a high resolution of detail and sensitivity. The special BIONZ image processor helps to screen out visual noise when recording ensuring the signal from each pixel captured is a pure and noise free as possible.

2.7-inch Wide (16:9) Hybrid Touch Panel
The Sony HDR-TG3 has a 2.7-inch widescreen LCD display providing an exception picture to preview your movies. The display will rotate 270 degrees giving you the flexibility to shoot in other directions than straight ahead. The 16:9 widescreen aspect ration makes shooting footage for widescreen televisions much easier than a traditional 4:3 screen.
Super SteadyShot Image Stabilization System
The Sony HDR-TG3E’s Super Steadyshot Picture Stabilization will help to control the camera shake when recording. No matter how still we think we are holding the camcorder some form of camera shake always seems to appear at the worst moments. The Sony HDR TG3 can counteract an even higher range of shake and vibration frequencies, keeping your video footage smooth without a loss of video qualiry like some other image stabilization systems can cause.
10x Optical/20x Digital Zoom
The Sony HDR TG3E has a 10x optical zoom which helps to bring those far away subjects slightly closer without moving your feet. In addition you can achieve a 20x zoom with the Sony HDR-TG3’s digital zoom. Usually the picture quality degrades quickly once you start to zoom using digital zoom but the Sony HDR-TG3E’s Digital Zoom Interpolation means that extreme digital zooming is clearer, with less distortion than it was with previous types of digital zoom.
Zoom microphone with 5.1ch surround sound recording
Featuring Dolby Digital 5.1 Creator, the built-in zoom microphone focuses audio recording on your subjects in sync with the camera’s zoom lens. This helps you record just the sounds you want and capturing the sound from what you are filming rather than what is behind you.
Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar Lens
As used by many of Sony’s cameras and camcorders the HDR TG3 features a Professional Quality Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar Lens. Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lenses use a highly advanced form of optics to deliver a vivid, clear image.
Picture Motion Browser Software
The software supplied with the HDR TG3E makes uploading, organizing, searching, and editing your videos a breeze.
Dolby Digital 5.1ch Recording
Record your movies with Dolby Digital 5.1ch surround sound via the camcorder’s built-in microphone. By recording in 5.1 channel surround sound you can enjoy your home movies with sound coming from all directions, just as it was when it was recorded.
Smooth Slow Recording
The HDR-TG3 allows you to briefly increase the record rate from 60fps to 240 fps for 3 seconds. This allows you to capture 3 seconds video and then and play it back over 12 seconds. This is great for analyzing something in slow motion such as a golf swing or a viewing a fast moving bird in flight.
x.v. colour Technology
As featured in many modern camcorders x.v.colour technology can capture or display nearly twice as many (1.8x) viewable colours than the standard RGB colour range. This means the video footage you shoot can provides a more lifelike colour range, producing video closer to the original experience.
Quick On Function
Missing an important scene while you try and turn the camcorder on can be frustrating. Sony have thought of this and given the HDR-TG3E a 'Quick On' feature. The camcorder can be placed in a sleep mode at the touch of a button. Another push of this button instantly wakes the camcorder ready for filming immediately. You’ll never miss those special moments again.
Face Index (Best Feature Ever!)
We think the Face Index function in the HDR TG3 is one of it’s best. Using Face Detection Technology the HDR TG3E will index your video footage according to the different faces detected within the scene. To search for all scenes with a particular face in them, simply search for what you are looking for by selecting from the list of detected faces displayed on the large preview screen.
Film Roll Index
The HDR-TG3’s Film Roll Index function will allow you to structure your footage like chapters in a book. This makes finding the scenes you are looking for a doddle. When this feature is turned on the HDR-TG3E will preview the beginning of scenes and will create scene indexes for you set at specified display intervals (3, 6, or 12 seconds and 1 or 5 minutes).
One Touch Disc Burning Function
To quickly and easily burn a DVD of your video footage you can use the HDR TG3’s One Touch Disc Burn feature. Simply connect the HDR TG3E to your PC via a USB cable and burn your high definition footage to disc at the touch of a button.
InfoLITHIUM Battery
The HDR-TG3 features a Lithium battery. Unlike older NiCad batteries the HDR-TG3E’s battery will not suffer from a battery memory effect that can shorten the life of the battery. With the lithium battery you are free to charge it at any time without the risk of losing valuable recording time.
The HDR TG3’s AccuPower meter will give you an accurate readout of the remaining battery life in minutes on either the LCD screen or inside the viewfinder.
Handycam Docking Station
The HDR TG3E comes with it’s own HandyCam Station. Simply place the HDR-TG3 onto the HandyCam station and it will provide a quick and easy way to connect the camcorder to a TV for viewing your footage or connect to a PC for editing your movies. The HandyCam station will also charge the HDR-TG3E ensuring it is always ready to go with you.
Stamina Battery Power Management System
When the Sony HDR TG3 is using the supplied InfoLITHIUM Battery, the Stamina Battery Power Management System prolongs the camcorders battery life to ensure extra long continuous recording times from a single charge.
Battery Information
With the Sony HDR TG3E you can see battery information at the touch of a button. The battery information is displayed on the large 16:9 LCD screen when charging and also when the camcorder is turned off.
HDMI Connection with BRAVIA Sync (CEC) Technology
Connecting the Sony HDR-TG3 to your television or projector via HDMI will provide a simple, high-quality video and audio connection. HDMI has the ability to transmit both HD video and 5.1 channel audio directly from the camcorder to compatible HD ready displays via a single cable.
Built-in Intelligent Flash
For added clarity and detail when taking pictures in low-light situations, the built-in flash improves pictures and reduces shadows.
BIONZ Image Processor
The Sony HDR-TG3E incorporates the advanced Sony BIONZ Image Processor. This image processor uses a hardware-based Large Scale Integrated (LSI) circuitry which helps to improve the camcorder’s response time and screen out some of the noise before RAW data conversion occurs.
Tele Macro Function
The TG3’s Tele Macro Mode will help your subjects to stand out by properly focusing the subject while leaving the background unfocussed. This is similar to the effect you can achieve with a still camera and the appropriate depth of field.
Switch between HD and SD Format
Recording Record and play back both High Definition (HD)4 and Standard Definition (SD) video. By recording SD video you are able to fit more video footage onto a single memory card at a lower picture quality. The Sony HDR TG3’s USB 2.0 Interface makes connecting your camcorder to a PC simple and easy.
Manual Focus
Being able to manually adjust the focus of the camcorder using the touch panel gives you added flexibility. This means the Sony HDR TG3E will let you control the focus in difficult situations where either the environment or the subject does not allow the camcorder's auto focus to perform optimally, such as when shooting through a fence or window or perhaps in a crowded environment.
Picture Effects
The Sony HDR-TG3 has a number of preset picture effect modes allowing you to get create with your shooting. Some of the effects available in include Monotone, Pastel and Sepia.
